Most European countries have at least a few study abroad programs, which means there are a lot of options out there for many students, especially those with a liberal arts degree at a large school. Below are three of thebest places to study abroad European countries for studying abroad, based on a variety of factors, including popularity and course offerings.

Italy
Italy offers the quintessential study-abroad experience – a beautiful country, brimming with experiential moments of delicious food, history, architecture, art and culture. Italy is a popular destination for those interested in the Italian language (obviously), as well as those studying history, architecture or art. Fashion is also popular in Italy, with brands like Gucci and Prada coming from that particular country of origin.

Even those not studying fashion, architecture or history may find Italy one of the best European countries to study abroad in due to it having the best weather in Europe and generous hospitality from most locals. Plus, between Florence, Rome and Milan, there’s a variety of educational destinations to choose from.

England
England receives one of the highest numbers of international students in all of Europe – especially students studying abroad from the United States. This is largely due to the diversity and popularity of educational options in the country. There are some 3,000 educational institutions, and nearly all of them have some sort of study-abroad program and the course offerings are endless.

As the language is (mostly) the same, England is a popular destination for American students traveling abroad for the first time. Not needing to learn a new language can make the transition to a foreign country much easier. England is also a great stepping stone for traveling through the rest of Europe.

Spain
Like Italy, Spain offers an experience straight out of the movies – filled with history, culture, art and food. In most parts of the country, siestas and fiestas are held in equal value and there’s a high priority held to enjoying life.

Spanish universities rank well internationally, and while Barcelona and Madrid have some of the best universities in the country, cities like Malaga and Valencia also offer great opportunities.
Besides the high quality of life, Spain makes a great destination for those looking to improve their Spanish as well. However, for those not interested in learning a new language, another popular draw to study abroad in Spain is that many courses are often taught in English.
