For thousands of years the Rai people of Nepal have taken the business of honey quite seriously and have the art down to a science. Twice a year, honey hunters scale treacherous cliffs with nothing more than some braided bamboo rope ladder and sheer determination to reach sky high hives that are home to the world’s largest bee species- Apis laboriosa. They work tirelessly for hours, while under constant bee attack, carefully extracting sacred Rhododendron honey. The elixir is regarded as the nectar of immortality in ancient writings and it’s also one of the world’s most expensive.
